Auger-Aliassime beats Humbert to reach Stuttgart Open semi-finals
Montrealer Felix Auger-Aliassime advance to the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open after claiming a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (8) victory over Frenchman Ugo Humbert on Friday.
Auger-Aliassime, third seed in the ATP 250 lawn tennis event, leaned on his powerful serve, scoring 17 aces to four for Humbert.
Both players held the serve throughout the hotly contested game. Humbert and Auger-Aliassime only faced three breakage bullets each and saved them all.
Auger-Aliassime tied his career record against Humbert at 1-1. Their first meeting was also on turf, with Humbert beating Auger-Aliassime in the second round at Wimbledon in 2019.

Auger-Aliassime will face American veteran Sam Querrey on Saturday. This will be the ATP Tour’s first meeting between the two.
Querrey qualified for the semi-finals with a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Switzerland’s Dominic Stephan Stricker.

Also on Friday, favorite Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., Faced Croatia’s Marin Cilic in the quarter-finals.
He had previously beaten Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-2, 7-6 (2), 6-3 in a rain-delayed match.
