An earthquake from Strength 4.9 hit southern Haiti. There are three dead and several injured in a country already reeling from the weekend’s torrential rains They triggered floods and landslides cost the lives of at least forty-two people.

The quake struck before dawn on the south coast near the town of Jeremie at a depth of ten kilometers, according to reports from the United States Geological Survey.

The three dead were found under a collapsed house where rescuers looked for other people. Frankel Maginaire of the Haitian Disaster Management Agency in Jeremie told the Associated Press.

Maginaire also said several children were hospitalized for their injuries in the stampede caused by panic.

A crowd has gathered to search for a collapsed house survived in the rubble.
