In California, houses are still hanging on the canyon rim after the landslide

Twelve homes in an upscale gated community overlooking a canyon in Southern California were on the brink after a landslide on Saturday caused buildings to collapse and forced residents to flee in a stampede.

The homes in Rolling Hills, Los Angeles precinct superintendent Janice Hahn wrote on Twitter, have been ripped from their foundations and the ground continues to move. “The movement of the earth is incredible,” he told the media, moving twenty feet in just one night.

After the first signs of failure, the fire department ordered an evacuation and residents had only 20 minutes to leave the site. No injuries were reported.
