MediaTek, one of the leading chip manufacturers for smartphones, is now targeting this automotive sector. At the Computex 2023 trade show, the company announced a partnership with Nvidia to develop the platform dimensioning automatically.

The Dimensity Auto platform will leverage MediaTek’s mobile technology expertise to deliver 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and more Satellite connections in cars. It will also leverage Nvidia’s GPU and AI software technologies to enable new user experiences, improved security and new connected services.

MediaTek and Nvidia have not yet announced which automakers they are working with or when the platform will be launched. However, they anticipate chip production will begin in 2026, and so will the hardware ready for 2027 cars.

The Dimension Auto platform is an important step for MediaTek in its quest to expand into the automotive sector. The company is already involved in the smart home market and the partnership with Nvidia will give it a strong position in the fast-growing automotive market.
