Russia beat Norway to secure playoff spot at men’s World Championship
Russia qualified for a playoff berth with wins in Thursday morning’s draw at the BKT Tires & OK Tire World Men’s Curling Championship.
Russia scored two goals in an extra end to defeat Norway 8-6. It was the second straight victory in the extension of the final for Russia, who earned an 8-7 victory over Canada on Wednesday.

Russia and defending champions Sweden, who also clinched a playoff berth, led the table with a 9-2 record after 19 draws, with two more draws expected on Thursday.
Scotland (8-3) was third, followed by the United States (7-3).
Norway was fifth with Canada at 7-4. The two teams were scheduled to meet in Thursday’s draw.
Japan, Switzerland and Germany win victories
In another action on Thursday morning, Japan beat South Korea 10-7, Switzerland beat the Netherlands 8-4 and Germany beat China 8-4.
The top two in the round robin earn passes to the semi-finals on Saturday.
Teams ranked third through sixth in the standings will face off in qualifying matches with winners to reach the bottom four. The medal matches will take place on Sunday.
The top six teams will also win places for their respective countries at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
No spectators are allowed in the WinSport arena, which was also the case at the recent Canadian Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles Championships.
Two Grand Slam tournaments are next on the bubble calendar ahead of the women’s world qualifiers at the end of April.
